Thoughts in a Hammock

I lay and sway in a hammock that is held by trees.
I've not encountered beings as persevering as these.

Undaunted, unswerving, even while holding my weight,
Their upward quest is a marvel to appreciate.

Our life is sustained by the fresh air a tree gives.
In these magnificent plants, the breath of life lives.

It appears that tears are streaming from one Aspen’s eyes.
I surmise that it weeps for its brother’s demise.

My pages won’t be filled with empty words, in respect
for the lives of these comrades that shelter and protect.

Let us hug and hold them and receive what they give
as they peacefully prove their great desire to live.
